Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La Pass Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)
Day 2 Sightseeing and trek preparation
It is an extra day in Kathmandu for trek preparation. In the morning, you will go on a guided sightseeing tour of monuments like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath, etc. Later in the day, you will meet with your trek leader/guide. Take a briefing about the trip, and do the final packing. If anything is missing, you can go shopping.
Day 3 Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2,651m); 3-4 hrs
This adventurous journey in the Himalayas begins with a thrilling flight to Lukla in the morning. The flight will be short and presents tempting aerial views of the Himalayan mountains. Upon landing at the Lukla airport, you will meet with other crew members and begin trekking towards Phakding village. The trail descends along a river through a forested path. You will pass by Ghat village and reach Phakding.
Day 4 Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,438m); 5-6 hrs
From Phakding, the trail continues along the northern bank of Dudh Koshi River and crosses numerous suspension bridges over the river. You will reach Monjo from where the trail goes through the Sagarmatha National Park. The trail ascends steeply along with the dense alpine forests and scattered settlement areas. Namche Bazar will welcome you with a great view of Mt. Everest.
Day 5 Acclimatization day
It is a rest day in Namche Bazar. This village is known as the tourist hub of the Khumbu region. Many cafes with WiFi services are here. Likewise, you can also visit the Everest Photo Gallery and the Sherpa Culture Museum. But first, you will go on a hike to the Everest View Hotel and Syangboche Airstrip. Both of these places are famous viewpoints.
Day 6 Namche Bazaar to Phortse Thanga (3,680m); 5-6 hrs
The trail heads towards Dole. You will walk on a rocky path. Trekking along with lush forests, you reach the top of Mong La Pass (3,957 m). The top of this pass offers stunning views of Mt. Khumbila and Mt. Ama Dablam. Further, the trail descends through dense forests and takes you to Phortse Thanga.
Day 7 Phortse Thanga to Machhermo (4,470m); 4-5 hrs
Leaving Phortse Thanga behind, the trail passes through several pine forests. You can see beautiful rhododendrons (the national flower of Nepal) along the way. Likewise, you will see green meadows, old shrines, and colorful prayer flags along the way. The trail presents a tempting view of the fifth tallest mountain in the world, Mt. Cho Oyu. Passing by Lapahrma and Luja villages, you reach Machhermo.
Day 8 Machhermo to Gokyo (4,800m); 4-5 hrs
The trail today takes you to the beautiful village of Gokyo. After an hour-long trek, you will cross a grazing land and reach Phanga. Further, cross an iron bridge over a stream and continue trekking towards the first lake, Longpongpo (4,690 m). The trail then descends and crosses one more bridge to enter Gokyo. You can see surreal views of lakes, peaks, and glaciers all around you.
Day 9 Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m); 3-4 hrs
You will spend the second rest day in Gokyo village. In the morning, hike to Gokyo Ri from where gorgeous landscape and snow-capped mountains panorama is visible. After spending some time there, return to the village and visit Gokyo Lake. Later in the day, you can explore the village and observe the daily lifestyle of the locals.
Day 10 Gokyo to Thagnak (4,750m); 4-5 hrs
As you pass by the largest glacier in Nepal, Ngozumpa Glacier, the trail becomes rocky and involves numerous ascents & descents. The trail further passes by yak grazing lands and descends along eastern glacial moraine. The landscape will get breath-taking as you will approach Thagnak.
Day 11 Thagnak to Cho La Pass (5,367m) to Dzongla (15,939ft); 7-8 hrs
Early in the morning, the trek begins. You will hike along the rocky trail and glacial moraine. Upon reaching the top of Cho La Pass, you can see spectacular views of snow-capped mountains. Further, you will descend along the icy path and glaciers. You will pass by colorful prayer flags and reach Dzongla for a night stay.
Day 12 Dzongla to Lobuche (4,940m); 2-3 hrs
The trail from Dzongla climbs to a ridge, following a wide valley. You will cross a glacial moraine and pass by a few lodges. Gradually, the elevation increases, and you can see captivating views of the Himalayan mountains. Further, following the route of Imja Khola Valley, you reach Lobuche.
Day 13 Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,170m) and ascend to Everest Base Camp (5,364m); 6-7 hrs
The day begins early, and you start ascending towards EBC. The trail follows the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and leads you to Gorak Shep. This place used to be the base camp of Mt. Everest in the early days. From here, you will pass by Army Mountaineers Memorials and reach EBC. The views will be magnificent, and the vibe will be divine. After spending some time at the base camp, you will trek back to Gorak Shep to spend the night.
Day 14 Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar (5,545m) to Pheriche (4,288m); 7-8 hrs
Wake up early in the morning and follow a steep rugged path that leads to the top of Kala Patthar. It is a very famous viewpoint to see 360-degree views of Everest and glorious sunrise. Trek back to Gorak Shep and continue descending towards Pheriche. The trail offers beautiful scenery.
Day 15 Pheriche to Namche Bazaar; 6-7 hrs
After having a warm breakfast, the trail drops down through lush forests of rhododendron and pine. You might get to see wildlife like musk deer, mountain goats, pheasants, etc on the way. The trail will be steep and winding. Passing by chortens and prayer flags, you reach Namche Bazar.
Day 16 Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,860m); 6-7 hrs
From Namche Bazar, the trail descends steeply through dense forests. You will cross many streams and suspension bridges. Passing by Monjo and Phakding, you ascend along a river and reach Lukla. The trail will be the same as before.
Day 17 Fly to Kathmandu
You will take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Upon landing in Kathmandu, move to the hotel. The rest of the day is free. You can visit tourist sites and the local market for shopping. In the evening, you will meet with the team for the last time over a farewell dinner organized by the company.
Day 18 Final departure
Today, you will leave Nepal and return to your home country/next destination. You will leave the hotel as per your flight departure time. One of our team members will escort you to the Airport and bid you our last goodbye until we meet next time.
