Gokyo Lake Trek Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)
Day 2 Sightseeing and trek preparation
We have arranged a guided sightseeing tour for you today. The tour will take you to UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, etc. After the tour, you will rest and begin preparation for the trek. Meet the trek guide and pack all the necessities. The guide will also brief you about the trail and the highlights.
Day 3 Fly to Lukla (2,800m) and trek to Phakding (2,652m); 3-4 hours
Take a scenic around 35 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Here, you will meet with other crew members who will join you for the trek. Later, trekking along the Dudh Koshi River, you pass by numerous mani walls and reach Ghat. The trail then gradually descends towards Phakding.
Day 4 Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m); 5-6 hours
From Phakding, the trail goes through a lush forest of pine along the Dush Koshi river, crossing several suspension bridges. At Sagarmatha National Park entrance, you will register your permit and ascend through dense forests following a steep path to Namche Bazar.
Day 5 Namche Bazaar: acclimatization
Today, you will explore around Namche Bazar. The day begins with a short hike to the Everest View Hotel, which will help you in acclimatization. You can see amazing views of snow-capped mountains from this place. Later, visit Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery. Namche Bazar has many cafes and restaurants, where you can spend time relaxing.
Day 6 Namche Bazaar to Phortse Thanga (3,810m); 5-6 hours
The trail today passes by lush forests with gradual ups and downs. If you are lucky, you might see wildlife like musk deer, Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan pheasants, etc along the way. You will reach Kyanjuma from where the trail will take you Sansa, and you will follow the trail that leads to Gokyo village. On the way, you can see stunning views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Tawache, and many others. Further, you will drop down to Dush Koshi Khola and ascend through dense forests to reach Phortse Thanga.
Day 7 Phortse Thanga to Machhermo (4,470m); 5-6 hours
Cross a bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and pass by lush forests. You might again see animals like mountain goats, yaks, musk deer, and others. The trail then passes by waterfalls and crosses many bridges to reach Dole. From here, you will gradually ascend above the Dudh Koshi river to Machhermo, enjoying wonderful views of Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Kantega, and others.
Day 8 Machharmo to Gokyo (4,800m); 5-6 hours
Today, the trail will lead you to the Gokyo village. Following a downhill trail along a stream, you begin the day. The trail then ascends steeply on a rocky path and passes by holy lakes. You will soon reach the second lake and cross the path to head toward the third lake, Dudh POkhari. From here, you will trek to the eastern shore where Gokyo village is situated.
Day 9 Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m); 5-6 hours
It is a rest day in Gokyo village. You will hike to Gokyo Ri that offers breath-taking views of the Himalayan mountains. Later, you will hike to the 5th lake, passing by the 4th lake. You will get to observe a very different life of locals here and their culture.
Day 10 Gokyo to Dole; 3-4 hours
The trail descends along the Dudh Koshi river past the first lake. On the way, you can admire superb views of Mt. Cholatse and Mt. Taboche. The trail descends and ascends to a hill. Further, you trek through villages like Machhermo, Luza, and Lhafarma to reach Dole.
Day 11 Dole to Namche Bazar; 4-5 hours
From here onwards, the trail drops down to Phortse Thanga. You descend through dense forest and waterfalls. The trail passes by small villages and takes you to Sansa. Further, you continue trekking towards Namche Bazar.
Day 12 Namche Bazaar to Lukla; 6-8 hours
After having breakfast, you will descend, crossing numerous suspension bridges. The trail follows a steep downhill path that goes through small villages and lush forests to Phakding village. From here, you will ascend to reach Lukla.
Day 13 Fly to Kathmandu
Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. The remaining day is leisure. You can explore around the hotel and shop for souvenirs. In the late evening, join a farewell dinner organized by Vyas Trek.
Day 14 Final departure
This is the end of your trek in this Himalayas country. You will leave for your home today. Our airport representative will drop you at the International Airport as per the flight departure time.
