Depending upon your landing time at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you might get a few hours to rest before joining the welcome dinner organized by the company. Dinner will be in the late evening, and you will meet with the team members. Later, stroll on the bustling streets of Thamel and end the day.
Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)
Day 2 Sightseeing and trek preparation
Wake up early and begin the day with a fresh cup of coffee & delicious breakfast. The tour guide will wait for you in the lobby. Visit different UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Swayabhunath, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. In the afternoon, you will meet with the trek guide and have a small briefing session. Later, check all the gears and do the final packing with the guide.
Day 3 Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur (2,420m) and drive to Taplejung; 45 min flight & 9 hours drive
You will take an early morning flight to Bhadrapur. The flight offers beautiful scenery. Upon landing at Bhadrapur airport, you will take a long drive to Taplejung. The drive also offers tempting landscapes.
Day 4 Taplejung to Lalikharka (2,265m); 4–5 hours
Today is the first day of trekking. The trail heads to Lalikharka, a beautiful village. There will be numerous ascents and descents along the way. You will trek through lush green forests and small settlement areas.
Day 5 Lalikharka to Khesewa (2,120m); 5-6 hours
Leaving Lalikharka behind, you begin walking following a downhill path. Most of the trail today descends. You will reach Phundrawa and begin ascending along a steep path that leads to Yangpang. The trail then climbs to Phumphe Danda and trek towards Khesewa. You pass by lush forests and small villages before reaching Khesewa.
Day 6 Khesewa to Mamankhe (1,785m); 5-6 hours
The trail takes you to Kabeli Khola. Further, trekking through dense forests, you will cross a small stream. The trail presents tempting views of snow-capped mountains. You will walk through several small remote villages before reaching Mamankhe.
Day 7 Mamankhe to Yamphudin (2,080m); 4-5 hours
After having breakfast, you follow an uphill easy trail and walk alongside Kabeli Khola. As you will gradually move towards Yamphudin, you will see gorgeous scenery. The trail passes by a lovely waterfall. The trail then crosses a small suspension bridge and goes through small settlement areas before reaching Yamphudin.
Day 8 Yamphudin to Tortong (2,995m); 7-8 hours
Walking along a common path used by the villagers, you pass through terraced fields and green meadows. On the way, you can have a glimpse of the Himalayan mountains. Further, the trail moves along the Amji Khola. You will then cross Lassiya Bhanjyang and reach Tortong.
Day 9 Tortong to Cheram (3,870m); 2-3 hours
Today, the trail gradually ascends along the Simbuwa Khola to Cheram. The trail passes by beautiful Lalung Valley offers superb views of Tulpung peak and lush green hills. Further, trekking through dense rhododendron forests, you trek towards Cherma. On the way, you will also see views of the Yalung glacier.
Day 10 Cheram: Acclimatization and rest
Today is the first rest day in Cherma. You will rest and get your energy before trekking ahead. You will explore around the Yalung Glacier and hike to a viewpoint that offers tempting views of the Rathong peak and Kabru peak.
Day 11 Cheram to Ramchaur (Ramche) (4,580m); 3–4 hours
The trail from Cheram, you ascend and reach the snout of Yalung Glacier. The trail is beautiful and offers amazing sceneries. Enjoying views of many snow-capped mountains, you pass by Lapsang and trek towards Ramchaur.
Day 12 Ramchaur (Ramche) to Yalung Base Camp (4,500m), back to Cheram: 3–4 hours
From Ramchaur, the trail ascends up the valley. You will follow a stream and begin ascending along the moraine to reach its top. Soon, you will get to see divine views of the Kanchenjunga's south face. Further, enjoying the view of Jannu Himal, you trek and reach the Oktang monastery. The trail then ascends to Yalung Base Camp, from where you can see extraordinary views of numerous Himalayan peaks. Later, you will descend to Cherma for a night stay.
Day 13 Cheram to Sele La (4,290m); 6-7 hours
Today, the trail crosses four passes. From Cherma, you begin ascending towards Sinelapche Bhanjyang. Further, you follow an uphill trail that leads to Mirgin La Pass and continues trekking towards Sinion La Pass. The trail then moves towards the last pass called Sele La Pass. From the top of all of these passes, you will see breath-taking views.
Day 14 Sele La to Ghunsa (3,595); 2-3 hours
The trail today heads north, offering views of Tangbgharma Danda. The route takes you across a chorten marked with colorful old prayer flags. From here, you begin walking along a steep path. Further, trekking through lush rhododendron forests, you drop down to Ghunsa.
Day 15 Ghunsa to Kambachen (4,050m); 5-6 hours
The trail from Ghunsa onwards moves along a riverbank, watching impressive mountain sceneries. Trekking through meadows covered with colorful flowers, you pass by lovely forests of pine and rhododendron. The trail then crosses a bridge over Rampuk Kharka and passes by a waterfall. Further, crossing a landslide area, you ascend to Kambachen.
Day 16 Kambachen to Lhonak (4,780m); 5-6 hours
It is going to be a tough trekking day today. You will begin trekking early. The trail goes through a rugged path along a hillside and riverbank. Passing by a waterfall, you cross a bridge that leads to the Ramtang monastery. The trail then takes you across a landslide-prone area. Further, you walk on a downhill path to a river and continue trekking towards Lhonak for a night stay.
Day 17 Kanchenjunga base camp, overnight at Pangpema (5,143m); 6-7 hours
Wake up early and begin ascending towards the base of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The trail goes alongside the gigantic Kanchenjunga Glacier and passes by Pangpema. From here, you trek and reach the base camp. The base camp welcomes you with stunning views of several Himalayan mountains. Spend some time here and walk back to Pangpema to spend the night.
Day 18 Pangpema to Lhonak; 3 – 4 hours
After having breakfast, you begin descending towards Lhonak. The trail will be the same as before and offers gorgeous sceneries.
Day 19 Lhonak to Ghunsa (3475m); 6-7 hours
The trail continues descending towards Ghunsa. You pass by villages like Kambache and walk through the forested path.
Day 20 Ghunsa to Amjilosa (2,308m); 5-6 hours
Leaving Ghunsa behind, you descend to Phale and pass by a monastery. The trail then goes through lush juniper forests and gradually descends to Gyabla crossing a bridge over Chhundatangka Khola. Further, you come across a waterfall and cross another bridge over Sumbung Khola to reach Amjilosa.
Day 21 Amjilosa to Chirwa (1,270m); 6-7 hours
After a short walk, you will come across a lovely waterfall and continue trekking through Solima, a small settlement area. The trail then crosses two suspension bridges over Ghunsa Khola and takes you to Sukathum. Further, trekking through small villages, you walk alongside Thunsa Khola followed by Tamor Nadi (river) before reaching Chirwa.
Day 22 Chirwa to Taplejung via Mitlung (921m); 7-8 hours
The trail from Chirwa heads to Taplejung. You will descend through lush forests and small remote villages. Upon reaching Mitlung, take a small lunch break and continue trekking.
Day 23 Taplejung to Bhadrapur; 9 hours drive
After having breakfast, you begin the drive that will take you back to Bhadrapur. The drive will be long, and you will get to see gorgeous landscapes throughout the ride.
Day 24 Fly to Kathmandu
Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you move to the hotel. Today is your last day in Kathmandu. Explore the bustling streets of Thamel, and end the day with a delicious farewell dinner organized by the company.
Day 25 Breakfast, lunch & farewell dinner
As your journey ended with us, it is time to return home or embark on a new journey. One of our team members will drop you at the airport as per your flight time.
