Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon Itinerary

  • Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

    After landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, meet with our airport representative who will guide you to the hotel. Check-in the hotel and rest for a few hours. Later, explore the vibrant streets of Thamel and join the team members over welcome dinner.

  • Day 2 Fly to Lukla (2,860m)

    After having a delicious breakfast, you will take a 40 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The views during the flight are spectacular. You can see aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon landing at Lukla, you move to the lodge. Check-in and enjoy the rest of the day chit chatting with locals.

  • Day 3 Trek to Phakding (2,651m); 3-4 hours

    The trail from Lukla gradually descends to Cheplung village. You can see the view of Mt. Khumbila from here. This is a virgin mountain, which has not been climbed yet. From here, the trail further drops down to Phakding, where you will spend the night.

  • Day 4 Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,438m); 5-6 hours

    The trail goes through a lush pine forest north up to the valley of Benkar. You will cross the Dudh Koshi River and pass by Chumoa to Monjo village. It is the entrance of Everest National Park. Further, you cross a suspension bridge and pass by Jorsale village. The trail moves along the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi river. With a steep ascent, you reach Namche Bazar for a night stay.

  • Day 5 Acclimatization day

    It is a rest day in Namche Bazar. To acclimatize your body, you will hike to the famous Everest View Hotel and return to Namche Bazar for a night stay. Namche Bazar is the most developed village in the Khumbu region. You can see internet cafes, restaurants, shops, ATMs, and museums in this village.

  • Day 6 Namche Bazaar to Khumjung (3,810 m); 2-3 hours

    The day begins with an ascend towards Syangboche Airstrip. The trail continues towards Khumjung village, where you will visit the ancient Khumjung monastery and Edmund Hillary School.

  • Day 7 Khumjung to Deboche (3,700m); 5-6 hours

    From Khumjung, you gradually ascend towards Deboche. The trail offers stunning views of the Himalayan mountains. If you are lucky, you can also see wildlife like Himalayan Tahr, musk deer, pheasant, etc. Passing by Kayangjuma, you reach Sansa and further trek through lush pine forests.

    The trail passes by a bridge festooned with colorful prayer flags and takes you to Phunki Tenga. From here, you ascend along a steep path and reach Deboche passing by Tengboche and lovely rhododendron forests. In Tengboche, you will visit the oldest and the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region, the Tengboche monastery.

  • Day 8 Deboche to Dingboche (4,360m); 4-5 hours

    After having breakfast, you begin trekking towards Dingboche, enjoying stunning views of snow-capped mountains like Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Nuptse, and many others. The trail passes through mani walls, chortens, and small villages. Trekking through Pheriche village, you descend to Lobuche river and steeply ascend to reach Dingboche for a night stay.

  • Day 9 Acclimatization

    Another rest day in Dingboche for proper acclimatization of your body. You will hike to Nagarjuna Hill that offers panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Imja Tse, Makalu, Lhotse, Cholatse, etc. Or, you can also visit the Chukkung valley that offers an equally great landscape.

  • Day 10 Dingboche to Lobuche (4,940m); 5-6 hours

    The trail from Dingboche, ascends to Dughla and continues towards Chupki Lhara. Further, trekking along the Khumbu glacier moraine, you reach Lobuche village. You can see gorgeous views of Khumbutse, Pumori, Lingtren, and Mahalangur Himal on the way.

  • Day 11 Lobuche to Gorak Shep (5,170 m)

    Leaving Lobuche behind, you ascend to Gorak Shep. The trail passes by Indian Army Mountaineers Memorials. As the elevation will increase above 5,000 meters today, the air gets thin gradually, which will make the trek strenuous. Gorak Shep used to be the base of Mt. Everest during the early climbing period.

  • Day 12 Acclimatization day - Gorak Shep: Optional early morning ascent of Kala Patar (5,500m)

    Wake up early and ascend towards Kala Patthar. It is a famous but isolated area, which offers breath-taking sunrise and 360-degree views of Everest. The route passes by the Everest Base Camp.

  • Day 13 Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m)

    Walking along the rocky dunes, moraine, and streams, you reach EBC. On the way, you can see spectacular views of Khumbu Icefall. After reaching the base camp, you will set the tents for a night stay. During the peak season, you will see mountaineers preparing for the Mt. Everest expedition. The views from the base camp are breath-taking. If you have not participated in the race, you will descend to Pangboche to spend the night.

  • Day 14 BLD

    Today, you will rest and prepare for the final race. Similarly, one who is not racing will go down to Namche Bazar. You will explore around the base camp and go on short hikes.

  • Day 15 Final Race Day - Everest Marathon- Overnight in Namche Bazaar (3,438m)

    The final day of the race. The race begins at 7 in the morning. There will be full marshaling, drink stations, medical back-ups, and supervision along the route. The route moves across the Khumbu Glacier and drops down to Gorak Shep. Further, you enter the Imja Valley and pass by Orsho (21km). It is a half distant point. You can see the oxygen available. Then comes the 500 meters climb to Phunki Tenga (at 34km) to Khunde. From here, you descend to Namche Bazar that marks the end of the world's highest marathon.

  • Day 16 Namche Bazaar to Monjo (2,835m); 2-3 hours

    Leaving Namche Bazar, you descend along a steep path to a bridge that crosses the Dudh Koshi River. Further, cross the river two more times and reach Monjo.

  • Day 17 Monjo to Lukla; 5-6 hours

    The trail from Monjo passes by Phakding and Chiplung village. You descend following a steep trail to Chauri Kharka. Further, the trail ascends and takes you to Lukla.

  • Day 18 Fly to Kathmandu

    Take a short and scenic flight out of Lukla. Upon landing at Kathmandu airport, you move to the hotel. The remaining day is free. You can rest and explore around Thamel.

  • Day 19 Kathmandu sightseeing and celebration in the evening

    After having breakfast, you will visit Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Later in the afternoon, visit the market and do some shopping. In the evening, you will meet with the team members over a farewell dinner organized by the company.

  • Day 20 Final departure

    Today, you will return to your home. Our airport representative will drop you at the international airport as per flight departure time.
