Upper Mustang Trek explores the Last Forbidden Kingdom, Lo Manthang. This trek is an ultimate gateway to time traveling that takes you centuries back amid ancient cultural heritage, a very old living style, and unspoiled nature. You will be traversing the remote Trans-Himalayan region that runs north-south off the upper corner of the Annapurna Circuit. Upper Mustang is a dry and semi-arid desert with numerous impressive rock formations, snow-capped Himalayan mountains, and deep ravines.

Trekking in Upper Mustang was closed for the outside world for a very long period of time. Opened in 1992 for the foreigners, Upper Mustang sees a relatively low number of trekkers every year. As Upper Mustang falls under the restricted areas in Nepal, you have to get a special permit from the government of Nepal, which only issues around 1000 of them every year. This strict law has effectively controlled the tourist flow in the region and preserved the pristine environment of the region.

Upper Mustang is a part of the Tibetan plateau. As the region is very close to Tibet, it has got a huge influence of Tibetan Buddhism. The lifestyle of the locals, practices, beliefs, and language all are similar to Tibetans. Along the way, you will come across several ancient monasteries, stupas, mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags. Likewise, the trail passes by many picturesque villages, caves dwelled high up on the cliffs, and high passes.

You will reach Lo Manthang, also known as the Walled City. You can see the palace of the royal family to this date in Lo Manthang. Upper Mustang Trek is an adventurous journey that will offer history not mentioned anywhere, myths no way to verify, and legends in perfect harmony with the breath-taking sceneries. You will be walking on the ancient salt caravan route that was used by locals and Tibetans back in the days for trading. You can see views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Mt. Nilgiri (7,061 m), Tilicho Peak (7,134 m), Mt. Annapurna I (8,091 m), Bhrikuti Himal (6,361 m), and many others.
