After landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, meet with our airport representative who will guide you to the hotel. Check-in the hotel and rest for a few hours. Later, explore the vibrant streets of Thamel and join the team members over welcome dinner.
Upper Mustang Trek Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)
Day 2 Sightseeing and trek preparation
You will go on a guided sightseeing tour of tourist sites. Kathmandu is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, etc. You will visit as many places as you can during the tour. Later in the evening, you will have a small briefing about the trek from your trek leader. After that, prepare for the journey. Check all the gears and do the final packing.
Day 3 Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (827m); 5-6 hours
The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara presents a beautiful landscape. You can see green hills, waterfalls, rivers, and small settlement areas along the way with a glimpse of snow-capped mountains in the distance. Upon reaching Pokhara, you will spend the day relaxing in your hotel and visit the Lakeside Market. Also, you can do boating on the tranquil Fewa Lake and spend time enjoying a gorgeous sunset.
Day 4 Fly to Jomsom (2,700m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810m); 3-4 hours trek
After having breakfast, take a thrilling flight to Jomsom. The flight offers breath-taking views of the snow-capped Himalayan mountains. Upon landing at Jomsom, meet with other crew members who will join you for the trek. Crossing a small bridge, you hit the trail that takes you to Kagbeni.
Day 5 Kagbeni to Chele (3,050m); 5-6 hours
From Kagbeni, you begin trekking along the Kali Gandaki river and reach Tangbe village. You can see beautiful white-washed houses and barley fields. Further, passing by apple orchards, you walk along a ridge to reach Chele.
Day 6 Chele to Syanbochen (3,475m); 6-7 hours
The trail ascends to Taklam La Pass (3,624 m) and moves towards Darkori La Pass (3,735 m). From the top of these passes, you can see a spectacular landscape. Further, descend and following a steep path reach Syanbochen for night stay.
Day 7 Syanbochen to Ghami (3,520m); 5-6 hours
From Syanbochen, the trail climbs to Yamada La Pass (3,850 m). Passing by chortens and barley fields, you trek through dense forests. The trail then ascends to Nyi La Pass (4,010 m) and descends to Ghami.
Day 8 Ghami to Tsarang (3,620m); 5-6 hours
Trekking on a rough and slippery trail, you descend to a suspension bridge. Crossing the bridge over Ghami Khola, you pass by mani walls and ascend towards Charang La Pass (3,870 m). From here, you drop down to Tsarang for a night stay.
Day 9 Tsarang to Lo-Manthang (3,730m); 3-4 hours
The trail descends into a canyon and crosses a river. Further, ascend to Lo La Pass (3,950 m), from where you will get to see the first view of Lo Manthang. Enjoying the views of stunning mountains like Tilicho, Annapurna I, Bhrikuti Peak, and Nilgiri, you reach Lo Manthang to spend the night.
Day 10 Acclimatization
Today is an extra day in Lo Manthang. You will go on a short trek to Chhoser. Likewise, you will visit ancient monasteries and caves. Later, spend time observing the daily lifestyle of locals and their rich culture.
Day 11 Lo-Manthang to Drakmar (3810 m); 6-7 hours
From Lo Manthang, the trail moves towards Gyakar villages. Here, you will visit a century-old monastery called Ghar Gompa. You can see intriguing rock paintings around the gompa. The trail then descends to Drakmar, where you will be spending the night.
Day 12 Drakmar to Ghiling (3,806m); 5-6 hours
Begin trekking early in the morning. The trail descends through a dry plateau and some farming fields. On the way, you can see stunning views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Nilgiri.
Day 13 Ghiling to Chhuksang (3050m); 5-6 hours
Leaving Ghiling behind, you begin trekking through small villages. You can see locals doing their daily chores along the way. Likewise, the trail also offers excellent views of snow-capped mountains.
Day 14 Chhuksang to Jomsom (2,700); 6-7 hours
Say goodbye to Upper Mustang and begin descending towards Jomsom. The trail passes by small villages and narrow alleyways. You reach Kagbeni and walk along the Kali Gandaki River to reach Jomsom.
Day 15 Fly back to Pokhara
After having a warm breakfast, you take an early morning flight to Pokhara. During the flight, you can see aerial views of the western Himalayan mountains. It is a short flight, therefore you will reach Pokhara early and have a full day to explore & relax. Spend the evening around Phewa Lake, a beautiful calming lake famous for boating and sunsets.
Day 16 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
Drive to Kathmandu, enjoying the gorgeous landscape along the way. You can see pretty views of lush green rolling hills, waterfalls, rivers, terraced fields, and small settlement areas along the way. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you move to a hotel. The rest of the day is free for you. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner organized by Vyas Trek.
Day 17 Final departure
Today, you will return to your home. Our airport representative will drop you at the international airport as per flight departure time.
